Machete Kills, the 2013 action-packed movie directed by Robert Rodriguez, is a film that will leave you at the edge of your seat. This sequel to Machete from 2010 once again stars Danny Trejo as the iconic Machete Cortez, a former Mexican Federale who is recruited by the U.S. government to stop a madman from launching a nuclear missile.
The storyline of Machete Kills begins with Machete being recruited by President Rathcock (Charlie Sheen) to stop an arms dealer named Luther Voz (Mel Gibson), who plans to launch a missile and cause chaos across America. As Machete sets out on his mission, he encounters a cast of fascinating characters – some of whom are allies and some not.
One of the standout supporting characters in this movie is Sofia Vergara’s character, Desdemona. Her performance as the leader of a group of prostitutes with machine guns for bras is one that will leave an unforgettable impression on viewers. “I am Madame Desdemona! And this is my island!” Her strong personality was amplified by her outrageous wardrobe.
Mel Gibson played his role as Luther Voz very well – bringing his own style and humor into his character. His portrayal of Voz was cold and calculating, which added another dimension to this film alongside all its action.
As expected in any Robert Rodriguez movie, there were plenty of memorable scenes in this film – from explosions to gunfights to stunts that would make even the most experienced stuntman cringe.
The dialogue throughout in Machete Kills was delivered perfectly; each line had its own unique tone which gave every character their own voice. Even some smaller characters like Julio (played by Oscar Torre) had their moments where they delivered lines with such conviction that it made them stand out even more.
One particular scene in this movie stands out above all others – the scene where Machete is fighting a character named El Camaleon, who is played by multiple actors: Cuba Gooding Jr., Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas and Walton Goggins. The scene was so over-the-top that it became a spectacle, making it one of the most memorable moments in the movie.
The music in Machete Kills was as intense as the action – featuring a score composed by Carl Thiel that kept the adrenaline pumping. The soundtrack also featured artists such as Demi Lovato, who sang a theme song for the movie titled “Heart Attack.”
While Machete Kills wasn’t a critical success and received mixed reviews from audiences, it still has its place among cult classics due to its over-the-top nature and action-packed scenes. Its style is similar to Robert Rodriguez’s previous works such as Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn.
Despite Machete Kills being panned by some critics for its lack of substance, its fast-paced narrative and unique characters make this film worth watching.
